Home Skills 1:1 Coaching

From "I wish I knew how?" to "I can do this!"

Hands-on 1:1 coaching that helps you understand your tools, tackle repairs, and feel confident taking care of your home.

If you’ve ever looked at a loose hinge or a blank wall and thought, “I wish someone could just show me how to do this without making me feel small,”—this is for you

Why 1:1 Coaching

Most people don’t avoid DIY because they’re incapable. They avoid it because they don’t want to:

  • Mess up
  • Waste money on the wrong tool or material
  • Feel foolish asking for help
  • Or get talked down to

I replace YouTube guesswork with calm, clear, side-by-side guidance. No rushing. No judgment, just skills you need to move forward with confidence.

Who This is For:

  • The First-Timer You’re ready to use a drill — you just want to feel safe and sure doing before you pull the trigger
  • The Independent Homeowner You’re tired of waiting (or paying) for a 10-minute fix you know you could handle yourself.
  • Women Starting Over  If you’re recently single, widowed, or moving into your first solo home I provide practical support without judgment to help manage it all.
  • Cottage Owners  When help is an hour away your own two hands are your best resources.

The Coaching Options:

Tammy Watson, Canadian Handywoman, smiling while writing in a notebook at her desk with shelves of books and personal items behind her.

This session is about removing the fear factor.

  • Tool basics: drills, saws, safety, and what those buttons actually do
  • Simple home repairs: patching, painting, hanging, and small fixes
  • The Why — understanding why we use certain screws or anchors so you can problem-solve later.

Your result will be knowing where to start and what you’re capable of.

For when you’re ready to apply your skills.

  • Woodworking 101: Build a simple project like a shelf or planter
  • Side-by-Side Build: We tackle a specific project together — at your home or in my studio

You get a finished project and the skills to build the next one.

1:1 Coaching is Right for You if:

  • Your “To-Do” list has turned into a “Wait-for-someone-else-To-Do” list.
  • You own a power drill but it’s still in the box or you’re afraid to use it.
  • Your circumstances have changed and you’re now handling it all
  • You’re done with YouTube confusion and want real answers
  • You want to feel capable–not dependent

This is not for you if:

  • You’re looking for a cheap shortcut that skips safely or quality
  • You want someone to just do it (See my Fix It Services)
  • You aren’t willing to get your hands a little dusty!

My goal is to teach you the right way, so you can repeat it with confidence

Frequently Asked Questions:

What can you help me with during a session?

I can help you learn how to use tools, handle everyday home repairs, and complete small projects like hanging shelves or curtains, fixing fixtures, working under the sink, or building simple pieces. If you’re not sure if your project fits, just ask—chances are we can figure it out together.

Do I need to have tools or experience before booking?

Not at all. Many of my clients are starting from scratch, while others have tried a few things but want to be sure they’re doing it right. We’ll work with what you have, and I can guide you on what’s worth having (and what’s not).

Will you do the work for me or teach me how?

I’ll guide you through it while you do the work. This is a hands-on, do-it-with-you experience so you actually learn how to handle it yourself next time, not just get it done once.

What if I’m nervous or have never done this before?

That’s exactly who this is for. I create a safe, supportive space where you can learn without feeling judged, rushed, or talked down to. You go at your pace, ask anything, and build confidence as you go.

How do I book and what happens next?

Once you book, you’ll get a quick intake form so I can understand what you’d like to work on. From there, we’ll confirm the details and meet at your home or in my workshop. I’ll come prepared, and we’ll tackle it together step by step.
