Earlier this year, I had the surreal experience of being featured in Cottage Life Magazine. They called me The Fixer — and I like it. Not just because I repair homes, but because I help women feel capable, confident, and secure in their own spaces. That recognition came right in the middle of one of the biggest transitions of my life — moving my business, Canadian Handywoman–your handyman alternative to Quinte West.

Why I Brought Canadian Handywoman to Quinte West
Leaving North Frontenac wasn’t easy. We were well-established there, and it felt like home. But family comes first, and I knew it was time to move closer to my kids.
Since the move to Quinte West, I’ve watched them go from just surviving to truly thriving. One landed a full-time permanent job after years of temp contracts, and the other — now in a safe, stable place — is self-advocating in ways that make me proud every single day. They needed stability, and being here made all the difference.
Building a New Chapter With Canadian Handywoman as your Quinte Handyman Alternative
For me, the move has opened new doors. I’m still offering Teach and Go sessions and hosting DIY Like A Girl workshops in local venues, but I miss the dedicated workshop I had back in Fernleigh. It was important to me, and it just felt good to walk into that space.
That’s what I want to recreate here — a workshop in Quinte West where women can come, learn, and build their skills hands-on. The vision is there, though the electrician’s quote made my jaw drop — so it’ll take some time.
“I miss my Fernleigh workshop — it felt good just to walk into that space. That’s what I want to recreate here in Quinte West.”

Introducing New Homeowner Orientation
I’ve also launched something new that I’m very excited about: New Homeowner Orientation. Think of it like buying a car — before you drive off the lot, someone shows you the dashboard, switches, and systems so you know how everything works.
Homes should be the same way. Instead of guessing at breakers, valves, or filters, I guide new homeowners through the essentials so they can feel confident, avoid costly mistakes, and start off on the right foot. If you’re a new homeowner in Quinte West, this service is designed just for you.
A Year of Wins and Growth
This year has had other big wins too. I was fortunate to win a Dragon’s Den–style national pitch competition at Google HQ in Toronto — one of those pinch-me moments I’ll never forget. That experience changed how I see myself as an entrepreneur, and I’ll be sharing a series of blog posts soon that go behind the scenes of the competition — from the preparation, to the nerves, to what it felt like standing on that stage.
And through it all, I’ve been making intentional choices for my own wellbeing. Six months ago, I drastically cut back on social media, and I can honestly say I’m better for it. Less scrolling, more living. More focus on family, clients, and meaningful conversations — the things that actually matter.
Canadian Handywoman: Your Quinte West Handyman Alternative
So here I am: stretched, growing, and grateful. Canadian Handywoman has taken root in Quinte West as a handyman alternative, and I know now more than ever that making the move was the right call — for me, for my family, and for the women I serve.
